Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first woman elected vice president and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally she was a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General of California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
